School Profile

sdasdaSt Munchin’s Catholic School is a double stream; co-educational primary school catering for students from Kindy to Yr 6.The school has an enrolment of 355 students and was established in 1953 by the Sisters of Mercy. Students have culturally diverse backgrounds and English is the second language for many of the students.

The school enjoys a close working relationship with Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament Parish, Gosnells.

The school motto, Sequere Veritatem, ‘Follow Truth’, helps students to focus on what is truly important in the school, with Gospel values at the core of everything we do. Religious education is the first learning area and is a valued part of the daily curriculum.

Students have the opportunity to enhance their learning through specialist subjects of Music, Physical Education, Dance, Digital Technologies, Technology and Enterprise, Library/Research and Italian. The school is an active participant in the Catholic Performing Arts Festival. A Special Needs coordinator and Learning Support Team, deliver programs to cater for the diverse needs of the students. These programs include Speech and OT assessment with ongoing support, Reading Recovery, Extending Mathematical Understanding, Hickey Phonological Awareness, and Leveled Literacy Intervention. Students in Yr 5 and 6 have the opportunity to participate in the “STRETCH CREW” extension program. The Social Worker and trained Rainbows coordinator assist students with social emotional needs. The Out of School Hours Care is managed by the school, and coordinated by a Nominated Supervisor, offering a well-supported service for parents and students. The school is also involved in a number of community enterprises such as a worm farm, breakfast Club and whole school waste reduction initiatives.

The involvement of parents and caregivers is encouraged and valued and opportunities are available for them to assist in the classrooms. The Parents and Friends Committee is an active part of St Munchin’s and their fundraising and social events are an asset to the school community.

The school has excellent facilities including a refurbished administration block and classrooms and expansive playing areas and is extremely well resourced.
